Who’s keeping it going
This international project has been kept going under its own steam each year. To get in touch with any of the project organisers below, please email us at contact@beitangproject.com
Our international team:
Guangzhou, China
Mr Liu Zhen Yong in the international office of Zhongshan university organises the Chinese teams and keeps the whole project running smoothly.
Beitang, China
Zhang Dian Cheng is the head of the family living in Bu de tang, and teacher at the local school. He hosts students and leads the summer camps.
Zhang Xiang Shan is our link to the family as she speaks English and has access to email. Her father has helped with upkeep of the house.
England
Bristol University and Leeds University medical students have been involved in running the projects so far, but students have also come from London and Birmingham. After each summer camp, these students recruit new teams for the following summer.
The project is part of the “Medical Students International Network” which was set up around the same time.
Beitang Project Founders
The project was founded by the Teoh family; with Beitang Project co-founder Lisa Teoh running the first Summer Camp in 2000. The family visits Beitang every few years and co-founder Ming Keng Teoh contributes to house repairs.
This website has been created by project coordinator Marianne Teoh as a tribute to all involved. In addition to providing information on the Beitang Project, the website is intended to be used as a “visitors book” for teams to write in their experiences, keep in touch, share photos and hand over tips to the next team so that the project can keep improving.
